Ginerva Molly Weasley's (now Potter) love towards Harry James Potter
(A question asked to me by a Harry Potter fan)
Q: To what reason do you
personally think attracted Ginny to Harry?
I personally think it was due to the likes that she shared with Lily....her braveness...courage...strength ...love and not-allow-others-to-walk-over-her.

A:
Well, among all the questions in the world, the one that stupefies me the most is “Why do you fall in love”. Love is a great mystery. The only reasonable statement about love is that it has no reason. One may present floods of reasons why they love someone and the moment he does so, I ask you to declare him a pernicious liar. He is to be loathed; he is to be put in scales where nothing is weighed.

Ginny’s feelings towards
Harry was not merely an infatuation, it was unfathomable love (based on Rowling’s
description in Half Blood Prince). They both knew that they were in love and confession
was, maybe, stimulated by Hermione’s revelation to Ginny.
Ginny Weasley always
revered Harry Potter. Few days before she went to Hogwarts School she was lobotomized
to find Harry Potter in her kitchen! I would like to quote Ronald Weasley’s
opinion on Ginny being shy upon finding Harry, “You don’t know how weird it is
for her to be shy, she never shuts up normally” (Chamber of Secrets). Later, at
Hogwarts, she was sorted into Gryffindor house which gave her ample amount of
time to ‘know’ Harry. Furthermore, her brother Ronald Weasley was the best
friend of Harry Potter.
Memories, whether or not
instantaneous, induce feelings; only a fool would question that.
Harry presented her the
set of Glideroy Lockhart’s collected works, which Harry received as a publicity
stunt from the hands of Lockhart himself. She stood up to Draco Malfoy when he
started insulting Harry. Harry saved her from Tom Riddle (Lord Voldemort) and
Basilisk in Chamber of Secrets. Later in her second year at hogwarts, after
Harry fell off the broom during Quidditch and was taken to hospital wing, Ginny
went there to meet Harry. She had made him a get well soon card that sang
shrilly when opened and presented it to him while blushing heavily. In her
third year she was still shy to be around Harry and it was Hermione Granger who
suggested her to spend some time with Harry and others. She might have been able to go to the Yule ball
with Harry, later in the year, but Neville Longbottom asked her before Harry
Potter and she accepted, having thought she would miss that chance, for she was
not the fourth year student.
At this point of time, I
believe Ginny 'knew' she was in love with Harry. It was those happy memories, some
awkward of course, that weaved loved in the heart of Ginny towards Harry. She
was displeased to hear Harry asking Cho Chang for the ball. Yet, she was not
ready to believe her love towards Harry and her attempts to deceive herself might
have led her to date Michael Corner. It was only after her relationship with
Corner that helped Ginny to stay composed in the presence of Harry Potter. When
Harry was acquitted at his hearing at Ministry of Magic, she was extremely
pleased and snag and danced with Fred and George Weasley. Later, Ginny played Quidditch
for Gryffindor team along with Harry as seeker and Chaser at different times.
Ginny was the only person to have succeeded in comforting Harry when he realized
he was possessed by Lord Voldermort. During her fourth year, she grew closer
with Harry, spent some time in the library with him and had Easter eggs
together. She even brought chocolates for Harry in the library! She also got to
spend some time with Harry in the secret dueling club under the name Dumbledore’s
army (the name proposed by her). She assisted Harry in the Battle of the
Ministry of Magic against the Death Eaters (a dark group led by vicious Lord
Voldemort). Later in the year she ditched Corner and started dating Dean Thomas
(a Gryffindor).
Surprisingly, she broke
up with Dean just because he laughed at Harry when he was bludged by Mclaggen (Gryffindor
keeper).
Ginny was playing seeker
for the final Quidditch match against Ravenclaws as Harry was detention. She
won the game for the Gryffindor and after the match Harry and Ginny spontaneously
kissed. They both were over the moon and since then they never separated.
I would say that Ginny
loved Harry before she knew herself. It was her love towards Harry that never
stabilized relationship with other guys. In fact, Ginny owed Harry nothing less
than love. They both knew they were in love. I cannot say when, because love is
like a dream; no one knows how or when they begin. It must have been Harry’s
uncommonly kind character and his secret love that bound Ginny to him. Harry
was a ‘dream boy’ to her ever since she heard of him and God was kind to bring
them together. They just needed a reason to confess and the time came in her
fifth year at Hogwarts when Gryffindor won Ravenclaw.
So these memories helped
to knit love in Ginny’s heart. And the same holds true for Harry’s as well.
Their affection was mutual.
I cannot help but notice
that they were destined to be together.
Ginny was the seventh children born to Arthur and Molly and the only girl born
to the Weasley line for seven generations. On the other hand Harry was born on
7th month of the year and was the seventh horcrux made by Voldemort
(unintentionally of course). The number seven has distinct meaning in wizarding
world and what more, there are seven books in Harry Potter series.
I cannot find a suitable
answer as to ‘why’ Ginny was attracted. Love has no answer to ‘why’. If there
is an answer, it is no love but is only an infatuation. Ginny was not just ‘attracted’
to Harry. She loved him and that for no reason. Her love was selfless. Their love
was destined, it was meant to be. Ginny tried being with other guys and failed
because she was deceiving herself! She loved Harry before she knew herself.
(Same holds for Harry as well)
The only answer that I can
provide is the memory that would have helped her heart to cultivate love for
Harry.
