An Overlooked Love of Draco Malfoy and Ginny Weasley - GUEST POST #5 (PRIYA KARN)

Those of us, who have read Harry Potter series, know very well how tremendously it has affected our lives. We have been waiting for our Hogwarts acceptance letter ever since we were eleven years old, and up to today, we think that the delivery owl just got lost on his way to our house. If you ever considered Hogwarts your home once upon a time, it always will be your home. This is one book that has completely changed our perspective of life. It taught us how to live, how to love. I think all of us can relate ourselves with one of the characters of the book. There always is a character in the Harry Potter series, which makes us go, “Hey, that’s so me!” Some of us can even relate the person we love with another character of the book. After all, seven years of Hogwarts taught us more than twelve years of muggle school ever did.

There are many Harry Potter fan fictions written by Potterheads. Here, I attempt to write one too (not too long as you have been used too; its merely an idea) on two of my favorite characters of the series: Draco Malfoy and Ginny Weasley. I am not writing this merely because of entertainment purpose; I strongly believe Draco and Ginny were meant to be together from the very beginning of school. I know nowhere in the book has J.K. Rowling made the love of Draco and Ginny obvious, but even till today, I like to believe that it was Ginny who ended up in Draco’s arms in the very end.

As aggressive as Draco always was, I always liked to think he fancied Ginny. Just before the second year was about to begin at Hogwarts, Harry had a photo session with Professor Lockhart. When Draco commented that the “famous Harry Potter can’t even go to a bookstore without making it to the front page,” Ginny defended Harry by asking Draco to “leave him alone.” To which Draco replied, “Oh, look, Potter, you got yourself a girlfriend.” To me, this comment of Draco has always implied the jealousy of Draco towards Harry because of Ginny’s taking Harry’s side. Besides, Draco did find Ginny to be very attractive.

Both Draco and Ginny were exceptionally charming. Ginny rarely wore any makeup to not to attract any attention, but all in vain. She was undeniably beautiful. Draco, no matter how mischievous, was and will always be the most handsome wizard in the history of Hogwarts. In my wizard world, Drinny did get married after Voldemort was defeated. They even had a son whom they named “Rian,” meaning “little king.” Rian is just like his father; he has got Draco’s playfulness, intelligence, and his good looks as well. I cannot elaborate on how commendable Drinny would have been, had JKR written the book this way. Nevertheless, Draco and Ginny are wonderful together, and their love, no matter how overlooked it may be, is certainly worth praising in the wizard world.
